Sedation Dentistry

If you feel nervous at the dentist or are anxious about longer procedures, you're not alone. Sedation dentistry can calm your mind and body so we can address your oral health concerns comfortably.

At Precision Dental Partners in Ballantyne, serving Greater Charlotte, NC, we offer three forms of sedation.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

/

Sedation dentistry uses medication to relax the body and mind. The sedation we provide at our Charlotte, NC, dental office in Ballantyne keeps you deeply relaxed but not entirely unconscious throughout your dentistry visit. As a result, you can get the care you need in total comfort.

Choose From Three Types of Sedation

Other Charlotte practices may offer just one or two types of sedation. We provide three, so that we can better tailor care to your exact case. Dr. Mason Pirtle can help determine if sedation would be an appropriate accommodation during your next dental treatment.

Woman receiving nitrous oxide

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a calming gas inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. It's the lightest form of sedative we offer. It is fast-acting and starts to take effect shortly after our dentist begins the flow of nitrous oxide. It also wears off very quickly following your dental procedure, so you can safely drive yourself home about 15 minutes after the nitrous oxide mask is removed.

Oral Conscious

Oral sedation provides deeper relaxation than nitrous oxide. With oral sedation, you'll be given medication in the form of a sedative pill to calm any dental anxiety. Typically you'll need to take it about an hour before coming to our office to give the sedative time to take effect. You'll need someone to drive you to and from your dental procedure.

Hand with IV sedation

Intravenous

Like our other forms of dental sedation, intravenous (IV) sedation induces deep relaxation, but not total unconsciousness. It is unique because it can be adjusted at any time to achieve the level of relaxation you need. At our practice, an anesthesiologist will monitor you throughout IV sedation to ensure your safety.

Benefits of Sedation At Precision Dental Partners

More Efficient Procedures

Involuntary movements in the dentistry chair can make it difficult to provide the treatment you need. Sedation dentistry calms the body and mind, allowing you to sit comfortably and allowing your dentist to provide efficient care.

Fewer Appointments

If you're undergoing a procedure that involves many steps, we may be able to get more done in fewer appointments with the help of sedation. When a patient is under sedation, our dentist can work longer and more fluidly in one dental appointment, eliminating the need for follow-up visits.

Comfortable Treatment

For our Charlotte patients, sedation dentistry makes dental care a more comfortable experience. Reducing dental anxiety through oral conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, or IV sedation can make you better able to have comfortable dental care in the future, possibly without the aid of sedation.

Improved Oral Health & Function

When you're nervous about the dentist, you may avoid treatment for months — or even years. Our compassionate dentist uses sedation dentistry to make it easier for patients to treat their oral health concerns and receive the treatments they require to prevent future problems.
